Hugh and I have sucked lately. We actually had a conversation a few weeks ago – months ago? – where we agreed to try doing at least one post a week. It’s not like we aren’t drinking. And yet we’ve failed. Repeatedly. Bloggering is hard work. Nevertheless, I have a feeling we’re about to make a big comeback. And it starts with Kudos 2009 Pinot Gris.
I picked this bottle up on a whim at Total Wine for $11.99. It was on display but I actually didn’t get it there; I saw it again down the aisle and realized I liked the name. It sounded celebratory. So I judged the book by its cover and rolled with it.
The Mrs. and I opened it up that night and – wow – we love it. We’ve since bought several more bottles to have on random weekday nights. Outside of a pricey Peju, it might be one of my favorite whites. I had to do some Googling but it turns out Kudos is made by NW Wine Company in Oregon. They do good work.
So how does it taste? Very light. Very crisp. Mild acidity and mild floral notes — maybe some peach in there for good measure (my first sip I got more peach than every sip after, but what the hell do I know?). Bottom line: it’s extraordinarily drinkable (as evidenced by how we’ve been downing bottle after bottle).
I wish their website allowed you to purchase some online. Barring that, check out Total Wine. Or contact NW directly and see where it might be sold. If you want a good white for a hot summer day that goes down easy and doesn’t ask a whole lot of you, then Kudos Pinot Gris 2009 is the way to go.

PS., Why did I underline the 2009? Because the Mrs. accidentally grabbed a bottle of the 2010 the other night and we both – she first, admittedly – noticed a distinct difference. It’s a little darker in color, but the flavor is also a little heavier on the tongue. The 2010 is still eminently drinkable but we agreed the 2009 was the superior vintage. To us at least. Try them both. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.
