Thrifty Thursday: Cupcake Red Velvet 2009

For our premier posting of Thrifty Thursday, we chose Cupcake Red Velvet California Red Wine. This wine should readily available at most outlets for under $10; I picked mine up at Harris Teeter for $9.99.  However, it appears that our first experiment was a bit of a failure, given that the Ninja couldn’t find the 2009.  Oh well, it’ll make for interesting comparison  because I actually really like this wine.

Cupcake is a Negociant.  Meaning, they source grapes from all over the world to make their blends.  They have a Malbec from Argentia; a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand; and of course, the Red Velvet from the good ol’ U-S of A (in this case, California).

As the Ninja said, Red Velvet is the first blended red wine from Cupcake and consists of Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah.  It is likely consistent across these two vintages.

I tasted chocolate, cherries, and some more red fruit, and paired mine with a little Phil Collins, while I wrote this post.  The wine is a bit chewy, although, not to the point of bubblegum.  It’s a nice wine.

The 2009 is easy to drink, and I think would be a crowd pleaser: 7.5 Cans
